My first rip…

So…today was a crazy day in the gym. We continued on our burpee challenge…140 today. And we did the WOD “Murphy” which is also known as the “Hero WOD”:

Run 1 Mile (1.6 Klm)
100 Pull Ups
200 Push Ups
300 Squats
Run 1 Mile (1.6Klm)

Instead of running we did a 1,000 meter row.

During my last 10 pull ups one of my calluses ripped! Gross I know…but for some STRANGE reason I feel like I was “initiated”! I have not had one of those since I was in gymnastics! Granted it hurts like a mother, but I am proud of it! I know…totally crazy. Anyone who knows me, knows that this is the LEAST girly thing I could be proud of! And I am pretty girly!

I did finish the WOD…yay me. (Another surprise for me.)

The bummer: yoga and oly lifting today was hard! Pressure on the hand kinda sucked in yoga…and well oly lifting trying to grip the bar SUCKED!

Yet…I feel I had a great day! Here is my hand after I cleaned it up after the gym and cut off the extra flap of skin…YUCK!

CrossFit Games 2013

Yesterday was so much fun! I got to hang out some friends from the gym (for the first time out of the gym) and we went to the CrossFit games! IT WAS AWESOME!

Sandra’s husband Chad was competing with his team (CrossFit Rocklin) and one of the other coaches Jen was competing with her team (CrossFit Anywhere).

It was also just amazing to watch ALL the athletes that were competing because I was just in awe watching all of the things that they were able to do! It was inspirational. It almost made me think I could do all that! LOL!

Oh burpees…

Burpees, I still loathe you.

Today will be day 15 out of 30 for the 30 day burpee challenge. We are half way through. (Still amazed that I am doing this!)

Here is to a 110 burpees when I get to the gym today. And then it will be all downhill to the finish line!


Atlas Stones!

Since Sandra has started implementing strong man skills into the schedule of classes at her gym, we have gotten to use interesting equipment. In fact, we got to use the atlas stones she had made for the first time today! It was exciting and fun!

Of course they started as empty molds. They were an adventure to get when I picked them up for Sandra. (Yay for Crossfit Stompin’ Ground for letting us borrow them!)

Then John put them together and filled them with some concrete. As you can see, there are a variety of sizes:

After like THREE weeks of curing, they were finally done! We used them after John had sanded them down of course.

And the workout today was AWESOME! We finally had atlas stones in various weights that EVERYONE could pick up! 🙂

On a side note…I survived 100 burpees! And day 5 of the ab challenge!


Day 12 of burpees…

So I am proud of myself…I have kept up with my burpee challenge. Even on the days I don’t make it to the gym! (I know…I surprise myself sometimes.) On Mother’s Day I knew I would not have any time to get to the gym for a workout but I had burpees to do! So I got up early…and did my 75 burpees first thing in the morning! 🙂 I was so proud of myself. So today we are at day 12…95 burpees. Which means tomorrow is 100! Now for some reason I just can not get over that number…100! It just seems so overwhelming thinking about it and it is not even here yet! 10 burpees at a time…10 at a time and I will get there!

Now on a side note I started a 30 day ab challenge also! This one has not overwhelmed me too much yet…but we are on day 4 and it happens to be a rest day! 🙂 I am doing this challenge with Liz, Mike, and John. Here is what we are doing:

30 Day Burpee Challenge

My gym buddy Mike asked me to do the 30 day burpee challenge with him.

1. I hate burpees.

2. I REALLY hate burpees.

Yet, I still agreed to do it! LOL! So he said his friends on Facebook were going to do it, but they were modifying the numbers to start with. So, we started on 50. 50 burpees. I thought I was going to die. I told him his friends were freaking nuts! That was Monday.

Tuesday, we add 5 more…55 burpees. Wednesday 5 more…60 burpees. (Did I mention Wednesday’s WOD included 100 burpees/kettle bell swings, with a sled push and tire flip, 5 times? Wednesday was more than 60 freaking burpees!) And yesterday 5 more…65 burpees. Today – rest day! HOORAY! Tomorrow we add 5 more for 70 burpees.

This challenge makes for a great warm up. And yesterday I was able to get to the 25 – 30 mark before feeling like I was going to collapse! (There must be a method to this madness…I might even get to gain some stamina doing this stuff!)

So I told Mike, you know what your friends might be crazy BUT hopefully I won’t hate burpees as much by the end of these 30 days! (Who am I kidding…I will probably still hate them!) And that is when he told me, his friends said 50 was too much and they dropped it to 25! But it doesn’t matter because we were going to keep trucking along…LOL! Here I thought we were going to drop the amounts…WRONG. But I did learn, I can do it. I push myself and get over the mental block that I have, I can complete burpees. I may not be the fastest, and they may not look very pretty, but I am getting it done!

Grace

Ever since WOD 13.4 in the CrossFit Games, I have HATED doing clean and jerks. So what happened? April was the month of “Grace”. Grace is a WOD of 30 clean and jerks at 95 pounds for time. April consisted of doing different variations at different weights of the clean and jerk. Using the logs, sandbags, dumbbells, and kettle bells. Needless to say, at the end of April I STILL hated Grace. (Even with all the Tuesday Olympic lifting classes!)

So here we are today and Sandra said, “Time to clean up those cleans!” <insert my grimace here>

Off we go working on our form. Not so bad…adding weight slowly…still not so bad. Then Sandra says, “Time for Grace!”

GAH! I HATE THIS WOD. I never even finish it because I get so frustrated with myself.

And what do you know? I did it today. I completed Grace in 9 minutes…less time than she was going to give us. And I completed it with the 95 pounds. AND I only had 2 failed attempts! Needless to say it was a success. Sandra (and everyone else at the gym) was right, it is all mind over matter.

Before I went to the gym I posted this on Facebook and it was true for me today!

Weekend Wrap Up

This past weekend was an adventure! Saturday was our “Strongman Workout” where we were working out with atlas stones, kegs, tires, wide bars, logs, sandbags, and farmer walks. It was seriously hard. I never felt so challenged before. Now I want to add skills of picking up atlas stones and kegs to my goal list! 🙂

No better way to refuel after a workout like that than with a food truck party! That’s right, there were food trucks from the Northern California region all together to serve up some delicious-ness! Long lines…but the food was so good it was worth it!

And then Sunday was our handstand class Part 2! Totally fun! I think I am able to find my center in a tripod handstand so much easier now…now I just have to get it up on my hands!
